prior to the date of request.
Any patient aged 75 and over is entitled to request and receive a health care
check with a health care professional if they have not attended a consultation
or clinic provided by the partners within the period of 12 months prior to the
date of request.
Well Man/Well Woman Checks
All our practice nurses provide a general health screening service (even for
apparently healthy people!), looking in particular for risk factors for coronary
heart disease and strokes and giving advice where appropriate on healthy eating,
weight reduction, sensible exercise and stopping smoking.
Child Health Surveillance (CHS)
All the doctors in this practice are registered to provide screening and developmental
assessments for the under-five age group. This is done in conjunction with our
health visitors. Routine appointments will be sent out for you to bring your
child for their regular checks with the doctor or health visitor at the appropriate
time. All of these appointments are listed in your child's parent-held record
(red booklet).
Maternity Care
All the doctors are registered on the obstetric list and, together with our attached
community midwives, you and your developing baby will be carefully monitored
throughout the pregnancy with a planned schedule of antenatal checks to your
pregnancy. The midwives run a clinic weekly at the health centre. Bookings for
delivery can be made either at North Staffs Maternity Hospital (consultant or GP unit)
or Macclesfield Hospital Maternity Unit.
Family Planning
We provide a comprehensive and highly confidential contraception service, including
the pill, the morning-after pill, coil and cap fitting and the three-monthly
injection.
Smear Tests
(Cervical Cytology)
These should be done at regular intervals (usually three-yearly for ladies 25-49 years old and every five years for ladies 50-65) to detect any
early abnormalities of the cervix (neck of the womb), which can then be treated
to prevent the development of cancer. The optimum time for a smear is mid-cycle,
that is at least one week after your period has finished and a week before the
next is due to start. If you come too early or too late in your cycle there is
a high chance that the smear will be inadequate and need to be repeated. Smears
are normally done by the practice nurse.
Minor Surgery
A variety of minor procedures are undertaken by the doctors, including joint
injections and aspiration. We also have liquid nitrogen for the treatment
of warts and verrucas. A wart clinic runs weekly - ask at reception for details.
